Calling All Winter Angels – Let’s Make the Season Brighter Together
As we head into the colder months, we wanted to reach out and say a heartfelt thank you for everything you’ve done this year. Your time, energy, and compassion have made such a difference — and now, as winter approaches, we have another opportunity to spread warmth and connection.
Our Winter Wellness service is returning, and we'd love for you to be part of it. Whether you’ve supported us before in a similar role or are looking for a new way to get involved, there’s a role for you.
Ways You Can Help This Winter:
Virtual Group Hosts
Lead online chats or fun activities like quizzes to help members feel connected and uplifted.
Seasonal Phone Calls
Make someone’s Christmas Day or Boxing Day special with a thoughtful call that eases loneliness.
Winter Befrienders
Offer weekly phone chats throughout the winter to bring warmth and companionship.
We’re looking for volunteers who can commit to a regular weekly role from late October to the end of February. Even a small amount of time can make a big difference. If you're interested in finding out how you can get involved, contact us at volunteering@deafblind.org.uk or call 01733 973466.
And if anyone you support would like to find out more about our new seasonal services, please do get in touch and we can send out full details.

Befriending Drop In
Befriending Officer, Raine, reports
At the August befriending drop in we discussed the upcoming digital switchover and any implications it may have on members, reminded everyone about the dates for the Tech Surgeries and that they are open to both members and volunteers. We also had some tips and suggestions on conversation & members needs, such as adapting pitch, tone & speed to allow for needs and hearing aids.
At the next drop in we will be getting an update from the Helpline about our services and introducing this year’s Winter Wellness service.
Raine's next session will take place on Tuesday 21 October 2-3pm on zoom. These sessions are a great way to meet your fellow volunteers and a chance to feedback and share in a group setting. To register for this session, simply click here and you will receive joining details.
Hundreds run the rainbow for Deafblind UK

Deafblind UK is celebrating the huge success of its very first Rainbow Run, which took place at Ferry Meadows, Nene Park in Peterborough on Sunday 9 September 2025. More than 350 runners, walkers and families took part in the colourful 3km and 5km routes, raising vital funds to support people living with sight and hearing loss.
The family-friendly event brought together people of all ages and abilities, with participants showered in brightly coloured powder paint as they made their way around the course. From start to finish, the atmosphere was filled with energy, laughter and community spirit, as supporters came together for a cause close to many hearts. It proved to be a fantastic day out for local families, with children and adults alike enjoying the fun and vibrant experience.
The success of this first event has already sparked excitement for the future. Deafblind UK is planning for the Rainbow Run to become a much-loved annual fixture in charity’s calendar, growing bigger and brighter each year.
Volunteer Learning & Training Dates
Deafblind Awareness Sessions
Sensory Support Officer, Andrew Barnes, continues his Deafblind Awareness open sessions and will be joined by one of our members who will be sharing their story and experiences of their own sight and hearing loss. These sessions are a great opportunity to increase your understanding about the impact of deafblindness and we strongly recommend that all volunteers attend a session if they can.
The next available courses will take place on:
- Friday 24th October 10.00-11.30
- Wednesday 19th November 14.00 – 15.30
